Netflix: ‘Ray’ Opening Sequence

The opening title sequence for Netflix’s Ray, much like the show, is a modern take on Satyajit Ray’s own style. Bold, graphic illustrations harken back to each of the four stories of the anthology, without giving away too much. A blend of digital techniques and analog textures give this sequence its unique, hand-done look; much of the frames are painstakingly painted frame-by-frame, and composited digitally. As longtime Satyajit Ray fans, the team snuck in a couple of easter eggs.

My role:
I was the 3D designer and animator in the project. I constructed the shots, camera movements and animations in 3D, which the team used as a reference on top of which they drew frame-by-frame.
